Westmoor Farm is part of the Cambridgeshire County Farm Estate and is situated in the heart of the Fens 1½ miles west of the market town of Chatteris. The Munns family has farmed here since October 1959 when Lionel and Alice Munns took on the tenancy of a 21 acre smallholding from the then Isle of Ely County Council. Funding was provided from a £100 pools win and extended credit from suppliers. The farm now consists of about 500 acres of arable cropping. The farm has gained an enviable reputation for the conservation work undertaken. As a result of our efforts we are proud to have won the following awards.
- 2003 We won the Millennium Cup for the best conservation farm within the Cambridgeshire County Council Farms Estate.
- 2004 Awarded the Coronation Bowl for the best overall farm business within the Cambridgeshire County Council Farms Estate.
- 2005 We won the RSPB Midlands Lapwing Champion. This is the RSPB’s most prestigious accolade awarded to us in recognition of the work we have done to protect this threatened farmland bird. Later in the year we automatically qualified for the national competition where we took runner up position from entrants from throughout the United Kingdom
